W.A.V.E.’s 24-hour Crisis Line serves victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Petersburg Borough. The crisis line is answered by a live person anytime, day or night. An evaluation is made as to the urgency of the call, and the call is then transferred directly to a trained advocate in Petersburg. The local advocate can assist the caller immediately if needed.
This system allows the volunteers to connect and provide an immediate, local response to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Having this crisis answering service is key to connecting victims to trained advocates. W.A.V.E. received over 55 calls to the Crisis line from May 1, 2016-March 27, 2017.
