Petersburg Medical Center recently purchased dining equipment for Long Term Care to facilitate family-style dining. Family-style dining allows residents to select the foods they would like to receive on a meal to meal basis, rather than standard institutional dining with pre-plated meals on a cafeteria tray. Residents can see and smell the foods before making their own choice of what, how much and even when they want to eat.
Freedom to make choices for oneself optimizes quality of life. Food and dining is central to a persons life, with the transition to a more person-centered dining experience Long Term Care is is moving to a more person-centered community for those that call Long Term Care home.
