With grant funding from the Petersburg Community Foundation, KFSK was able to purchase a professional, remote digital reporting kit that allows reporters to cover stories in the field in real time rather than relying on studio interviews. This gets the news out to KFSK listeners much faster with in-the-moment details, capturing the stories as they occur rather than from a “looking back” angle.
KFSK reporters recently went to Kake for the annual summer Keex’ Kwaan Culture Camp to report on the 30th annual practice and celebration of Tlingit traditions. The digital equipment spawned an interest in digital storytelling in Kake and Culture Camp instructors are interested in having KFSK return and provide a workshop on recording and sharing community stores.
