2023 Volunteer of the Year, Jeannette Ness “If you want change, or to increase awareness, you have to be a part of that change.”

Jeannette Ness was named Petersburg Community Foundation’s 2023 Volunteer of the Year. 

Jeanette is a lifelong resident of Petersburg, Alaska.  As a level-headed thinker and agent of change, Jeannette has participated in and assumed leadership roles in numerous non-profits and other organizations focusing on the needs of Petersburg residents. In addition to her passion for positive change, Jeannette contributes her considerable baking talent to meetings, gatherings, and fund raisers.

When asked how she has maintained her lifelong commitment to the work of non-profits Jeanette said:

“If you want change, or to increase awareness, you have to be a part of that change.”

When asked about her favorite quote Jeannette mentioned the following:

 “Although I am a typical loner in my daily life, my awareness of belonging to the invisible community of those who strive for truth, beauty, and justice, has prevented me from feelings of isolation.”  – Albert Einstein

Jeannette donated her award money to the Petersburg Indigenous Awareness Committee, which is under the umbrella of the Petersburg Arts Council.
